The project is located in the middle of Suzhou Industrial Park, the south side of Jinji Lake, a favorable location with superior natural landscape.
Suzhou has always been renowned for its classical Jiangnan style gardens and its profound cultural heritage, while the Greentown, over a decade of development, has accumulated unique and tremendous experience in developing classical-European-styled projects. The problem we faced at the beginning of the project was how to make good use of both the regional features and our own experience.
Courtyard house, a traditional residential type, turned out to be a more balanced solution. A central courtyard enclosed by classical European-styled buildings not only meets the needs for privacy and comfort but also reflects the valued quality and superiority.There are two zones in the site planning – the courtyard house zone with a theme of “garden--lane” and the stacked singleleveled apartment zone with a theme of courtyard. The luxury single-leveled apartment buildings sit along the city road on the east and north of the site, together with the main entrance of the neighborhood to create a continuous urban façade. Some residents in the five storeys high buildings may have view of the distant lake from their units.Courtyard houses are located in the southwest which is divided into two blocks. Houses spread out westwards in the west block and southwards in the south block forming clusters. This zone is the focal point of the community and the lanes between the courtyard houses give a feeling of peacefulness.The courtyard becomes the highlight of residential life. A series of grey spaces make the indoor and outdoor spaces blend into each other seamlessly.
“Courtyard house” is a successful combination of traditional Chinese living culture and European classical architectural style. What it brings is the improved function, higher quality of living and the refinement of architecture.
