Located in Dajing Mountain Rural National Park in Jingshan Town, Yuhang District of Hangzhou, and ensconced in the century-old Changle Forest Farm, the project with a total planned area of 16,000mu integrates mountains, forest, water network, villages, tea hills and farmlands, and enjoys exceptional natural resources.

Based on a total planned area of 10,000 mu, it intends to build a composite agriculture & forest town integrating agriculture, tourism, care and residence functions.

Following the design idea of “residence + farmland”, the plan organically combines agricultural production, life, ecology and rural living experience. A complete self-circulating system is also designed around “town center” as its heart to support local life and development.

The project is planned with a series of typical farm & street clusters, which are closely organized via “village ends” (defining a sense of territory) and “village centers” (covering pubic neighborhood communication spaces); meanwhile, various clusters smoothly adapt to site conditions to naturally create clustered new neighborhood and new village spaces.

The longing for idyllically reclusive life has been in existence since ancient times in China. The Returning to My Farm by Tao Yuanming in the Jin Dynasty and the Picture of Dongzhuang by Shen Zhou in the Ming Dynasty have concretely depicted the pastoral dreams of Chinese scholars. In the contemporary era, this appeal is extremely strong. The farm in Happiness Town exactly uses such traditional architectural language to describe the beauty and serenity of the poetic life south of the Yangtze River. The white walls and black tiles are unfolded orderly in a beautiful landscape of mountains and rivers, presenting to us scenes after scenes of plain and simple life.

Aiming at “creating a model of beautiful new village, and setting the example of quality life”, this is a practice of ideal pastoral town building, and a beneficial exploration of the possibility of organically integrating traditional culture and modern life.
