Xizi Industrial Park is located in Haining External Comprehensive Agricultural Development Zone of Zhejiang Province. The design for employees’ dormitory is an important component of the park. Employees can conveniently reach the dormitory from inside the plant area or through a separate entrance/exit designed beside the road on the east side. The northeast side of the dormitory faces a straight river, giving employees a tranquil residential environment.

Designed in accordance with the Xizi Industrial Park’s developmental strategy, the project takes concise and efficient design as its starting point, and aims to realize the enterprise visions of “energy conservation and innovation” in a neat unit-based spatial model.

In terms of form layout, two buildings of the same massing face one another, enclosing a super large-sized courtyard. The courtyard consists of two units, one used as an exercise and fitness site and the other designed as a densely planted and sloped landscape slope. Both sides of the central courtyard are separated from the main building, forming a natural lighting area that dispels the claustrophobic feeling of the sunken section and enhances the building’s overall usability.

Architectural forms are combined with function elements by drawing on techniques such as superposition and interspersion. Facing bricks, paints and other relatively economical materials are used to create a succinct and unified façade effect. At the same time, the flexible layout of louvers and handrails introduces some variation into to the holistic effect while tallying with the original design intention of conciseness and efficiency.
