The project is located in Gu Village, Baoshan District, and is a comprehensive high-end community integrating Shanghai Gate townhouses, modern lane-styled commercial street and offices. It is a blend of traditional Shanghai private house, modern life and green building concept and is in keeping with the theme of the Shanghai Expo--“Better city, better life”.

As a witness of the influence of western life style on local culture in modern Shanghai history, lane life is a crucial part of Shanghai’s style. The lanes have compact layout and lively spaces; daily life goes on in the lanes as in public living rooms. Therefore, with a design concept of “Shanghai Gate in the garden, old houses by the park” and an attitude of respecting history and culture, we strive to revive and regenerate traditional lane with modern living standards and corresponding supporting facilities.

The residential area contains striped green space, landscaped waterway, various outdoor spaces and supporting facilities. The road system, which consists of one 6 meters wide main lane and many 4.5 meters wide sub-lanes, is derived from the scale and spatial characteristics of the traditional lanes and reflects traditional neighborhood structure and vibrant public life. The clusters have distinct structures and comfortable scale.

All buildings have grey and red brick, grey and red tiles, granitic plaster, and handwork exterior clay brick to form a delicate and elegant façade, a heritage of traditional architectural texture. The townhouses preserve traditional elements such as gable wall, sloping roof, dormer, chimney, French balcony, deck, black painted wood door, stone door frame and shutter, etc. The lane-styled commercial streets mix glass curtain walls with traditional Shanghai Gate style to add modern flavor. Three high-rise hotel apartments and office buildings dominate the entire site by their straight posture and massive massing.

Phase I of the residential part was delivered in December 2011, and was named the “Demonstration Project of Shanghai Style Traditional Private House for Shanghai Expo”.
