Shijiazhuang Tingxiang Primary School, one of the supporting schools for the Dongzhaotong Urban Village Redevelopment Project in Chang'an District, was initially situated between a dense urban village settlement and expansive fields during its design phase. As the redevelopment progresses, the area will transform into a new district of high-rise buildings, fundamentally altering both the architectural scale and the living environment. The architects aimed to create a small-scale space here, reviving the spatial experience and living scenes reminiscent of a traditional settlement.

A school should not only be a place for children to acquire knowledge but also a space that sparks interest and creativity. The architects combined two architectural forms—the traditional academy and the settlement—to create both orderly, efficient learning spaces and varied, free-flowing play areas. The ground floor features cubic volumes of different sizes, forming a settlement-like morphology that houses public activity spaces such as art classrooms, reading rooms, an indoor sports hall, and a canteen. These cubic volumes twist along diagonal pathways, reconstructing order within a free layout through guided circulation while seamlessly connecting the campus to the community’s public cultural and sports facilities to the south. The teaching spaces, arranged in an academy style, adopt a C-shaped floor plan and are stacked above the settlement-like cubes, ensuring ample natural light and scenic views. The elevated second-floor space forms an engaging cloister, encouraging students to explore freely.

It is reported that Shijiazhuang Tingxiang Primary School is affiliated with the Shijiazhuang Foreign Languages Education Group and commenced operations in September 2024. As one of the few public schools in the area implementing a small-class teaching model, its design perfectly aligns with Tingxiang’s educational philosophy, which emphasizes interest development and holistic competency cultivation. Recently, construction also commenced on the supporting Shijiazhuang Tingxiang Middle School for the same district, likewise designed by goa .
