Beibu Gulf International Oceanic Transit Center is located at the south end of downtown Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and closely adjoins the Xunliao Bay at the portal of the Beibu Gulf. It is an important offshore civil shipping hub for traveling from Beihai to the Weizhou Island and Haikou.
The project consists of shipping terminal, marine hotel, marine culture-themed commercial street, health & fitness apartment (to be constructed in Phase II) and several other functional sectors. To be specific, the shipping terminal is located in the southernmost of site, closely adjacent to harbor basin and directly facing the seaward channel, and serves as the core building in the entire marine service base. Instead of conventional design technique of large-span concentrated space commonly seen on transportation buildings, this building employs a planar layout of independently arranged waiting halls in pairs which can be separated and combined as needed so as to effectively respond to the service demands of shipping lines in low and high seasons of tourism and save unnecessary construction cost and daily maintenance cost. Meanwhile, this design technique can control building scale within a more pleasant scope, and is combined with local vegetation characteristics to create a new-generation transportation building that has tropical flavor and embody local characteristics.
