Located on the edge of the cliff by the winding Longfengxi river, the Qu Shui Feng He project boasts an abundance of natural resources such as waterfalls, rivers, cliffs, and native vegetation. Therefore, how to establish a connection between nature and architecture to integrate various natural and cultural landscapes to create a characteristic city landmark is the focus of the project’s architectural design.
The exhibition center, situated at the east end of the main landscape axis, serves as an important passage to the green belt along the river in the east. The architectural designer intends to enhance the experience from artificial design to natural creation. In terms of building materials, the architectural designer makes use of brushed stainless steel, large pieces of glass and water reflection to blend the construction into the natural environment and blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The colors selected for the architecture and the landscape are mainly based on black and white and gray tones, which makes the construction look much purer and more magnificent.
The construction is composed of several scattered boxes, in an attempt to retain the power of the local landscape. According to different functions, different sections are covered with different skins, including glass, stone, stainless steel, metal mesh and water, to strengthen the contrast among different parts. A layer of metal mesh hangs on the outside of the main glass curtain wall of the two-story building, forming a light-receiving surface at night, just like a glowing box. The terrace on the south side of the second floor of the building is cantilevered above the water surface and inclined outwards, highlighting a sense of imposingness of the sales office, which is consistent with the feeling communicated by the cliff of the site. What’s more, this terrace is also the best place to view the waterfall in the south. Below the pool, there’s a water-curtain waterfall, which interestingly echoes with the waterfall on the south side of the site. The waterfall, surrounded by highly reflective stainless steel with built-in spotlights, interacts with the water curtain to create a surreal effect, making people feel as if they were visiting a crystal palace. Accompanied by an alteration of light and shadow and the sound of gurgling water, visitors can have a walk down the spiral stairs set around the waterfall, which is a unique emotional experience. On the west and south sides of the sales office, two pools are set up and organically connected through enclosures and lightweight corridors, leading to the entrance, viewing platform, showroom and underground water curtain patio. As people walk, scenes are switched seamlessly from one to another, enabling exploration of different types of beauty.
