The Suzhou Lanting Hotel is located in the Suzhou Industrial Park, adjacent to Yangcheng Lake. The site extends in a narrow and irregular long shape along the lake. The client plans to build four independent clubs and one independent guestroom building. The key requirement is that each building must have maximum lake view while having independence and privacy.

The site is divided into five parts along the lake. Each part is elevated 1.5 meters higher than the public footpath on the lake to provide better lake view and at the same time to outline the privacy of the site.

Each club site is divided into the entrance courtesy area and the main function area along the lake shoreline. From the entrance to the lake, the courtesy area is organized with a guest arrival front court, a water courtyard with walking path, a reception lobby, a scenic focal point of light well, and a main reception hall with courtyard facing the lake. The traditional space layout creates an axis stretching towards the lake. The architectural space characteristics and the lake view are impressive. From inland to the lake, the main function area is organized with parking area, guestroom area and lakefront living area. The living area has different courtyard space layout--three-sided enclosed courtyards, four-sided enclosed courtyards or multi-layered courtyards to reflect different purposes and spatial features. There are various recreational facilities organized on the underground levels including theatre, chess and cards club, wine cellar, swimming pool and SPA. Multiple sunken courtyards are provided to improve the lighting and ventilation conditions on the underground levels.

In terms of appearance, the grey metal roofs, combining with the exquisite metal moldings at eaves and wooden screen suspended ceilings, create modern style two-sided sloping roofs. Light-colored stone with grey-metal-edged walls enclose the courtyards and architectural spaces. The large wooden window openings make the indoor and outdoor spaces permeate with each other. The white walls, wooden windows, two-sided sloping roofs and layers of courtyards show simple and bright modern architectural characters, yet at the same time correspond to the pattern, color tone and atmosphere of traditional residential gardens in Suzhou.
