Located high on a cliffside in Qushi Town of Tengchong County, Yunnan Province, the Hilton Resort Qushi Ecological Town enjoys exceptional landscapes that are also the starting point for the design. Dedicated to the principle of fully integrating architecture with ecology, the project makes full use of local materials to show its respect for environment and regional culture.

The design endeavored to preserve the pines native to the site, with an intention to immerse the hotel in the tranquility of the original pine forest. The guestroom area employs a centralized layout that surrounds a central courtyard and a scenic pool. The design of the guestroom balconies allows every guest to enjoy the mountain landscape. The public spaces are laid out in decentralized forms and designed with courtyards, corridors, walls and eaves to create an elegant traditional Chinese-style atmosphere.

The lobby and lobby bar are located along the main landscape axis. Through an ingenious use of altitude difference, people walking into the architecture can immediately overlook the beautiful landscape from a two-story height. The Chinese-style verandas link up the lobby area, the dining area and the meeting area, with landscape running through the entire pathway of movement. The outdoor infinity pool and SPA are enhanced by the mountain scenery in the background, and the volcanic rock tower of an extremely obvious regional style echoes with the Gaoligong Mountain in the distance. The specialty restaurants are located independently from the main body of the hotel and scattered in the forest with boardwalk in-between.

The architect modified the traditional Chinese-style roof, interspersing the rooftops of larger guestrooms to create a diverse amalgam of single-slope and gabled roofs of various gradients, which serves to reduce the sense of heaviness created by larger guestrooms while enriching the architectural forms. Regional buildings of smaller massing use common gabled roofs or flat roofs, with clear and concise forms serving as a foil to the buildings with a larger massing.
