On March 1st, the groundbreaking ceremony for the " SUNYATA Hotel Datong  " was held in the Dongnanyi Historic and Cultural Block, with plans to open in mid-2025.

SUNYATA Hotel Datong is a 45-room boutique hotel adjacent to Heyang Gate. The site comprises historically protected structures on the west, occupying approximately 1/3 of the entire site. As remnants of the ancient city blocks, these structures contribute to the hotel's distinctive character and imbue it with a profound historical charm.

The design is inherent in the spatial prototype of the Shanxi courtyard while weaving old and new elements into Datong's historic fabric. It embraces the traditional Shanxi residences, known for their grand exteriors, intricate layouts, and sophisticated aesthetics. The new section follows classical courtyards' scale, architectural composition, and color schemes. The local living heritage is honored by preserving and replicating local features like the "heshe" (courtyard house), "yongdao" (corridor), and "guojielou" (bridge building). In the central courtyard, one can look towards the west and see the old residences renovated into guest rooms. They blend in with the modern structures, creating a dialogue between the past and present.

The hotel entrance features a sunken courtyard that leads to the Yungang Grottoes Digital Art Museum, which includes exhibition halls, a theater, a mural restoration workshop, and a café. The underground museum and swimming pool are illuminated by a skylight, evoking a serene and rustic ambiance reminiscent of natural caves.
