Located in the heart of Linping New City, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Colorful City is a key element of the Donghu Riverside skyline, bordered by Donghu Park and Linping Grand Theatre to the south. The site is divided into two by Xuehai Road, with a metro line running through the middle of the east lot, creating a 30m-wide construction-free zone on the ground. Despite these limitations and challenges, the design creatively incorporates the functional requirements of the highly mixed-use program while providing a delightful spatial experience.

At the site's southwest corner, a 150m-tall tower provides sweeping views of Donghu Park. The tower's lower section is dedicated to offices, while the upper part is a hotel. On the north of the west lot are four residential buildings ranging from 80-100m in height and with a few low-rise commercial spaces, providing convenient access to services for the entire lot. The area above the metro line becomes a linear park, with a 75m-high office building at its north end. South of the east lot is designated for commercial and office buildings less than 20m in height, with a gradual decrease in height from north to south and west to east to guarantee that each building has an unobstructed view of the south-facing landscape. This configuration also creates a vibrant, sunny garden as an active communal space.

The north-south axis divides the supertall tower into two slightly asymmetrical sections, creating an appealing visual effect reminiscent of a partially unrolled scroll adorning the street. This concave and convex architectural design mitigates the tall building's imposing stature and creates a distinct sense of individuality. The tower is accentuated by the 270° oversized curved glass at the corners, creating a captivating visual journey for hotel guests and office occupants. The facades of the low-rise commercial block exhibit a contemporary Chinese aesthetic, with large horizontal windows serving as commercial displays that combine modern elements with classic influences.
