Located in an irregular open space that stretches onto the lake, Qiandao Lake International Hotel Management School is built along a hill in the south with fluctuating terrain, presents branch forms at the peninsula edge in the north, and forms many lake bays through intertwining with the lake surface.

The first tenet of the project design is to blend the architecture into the terrain, thus giving people a perception of architecture echoing with the nature. Starting with the tenet in mind, the architect creates a group of dynamic spatial scenes, and takes body as a scale to feel the order of the site: The experiencer walks into the campus from the road, climbs up the ridge, and travels to a serene pond, a mirror image to the sky and the water as well as transparent glass curtain walls; a lightsome arc-shaped footpath leads to the first-layer overhead area, and, ascending step by step, a square courtyard of 1,800m² suddenly shows up at the end of the steps, introducing magnificent natural beauty into the architecture; the three-side-enclosed and one-side-opened courtyard walls constitute a huge viewing frame, which encloses the silence of nature and screens the noises of the bustling city.

From ring road, through water surface, thin bridge and overhead area, to preset optimal viewing point, architectural techniques are employed to provide a gradually rising travel experience. Under intervention by the architecture, the natural landscape presents a total different scene. This void courtyard frames a heterogeneous space in the natural world, where natural landscape of mountains, water and sky outside echo with people inside.

In the monomer design, the complicated terrain height differences are transformed into a rich stereoscopic transportation system, and the designer uses the teaching building rooftop as a giant lakeview garden, and introduces overhead bridges and galleries to create interesting transportation spaces.
